The map first appeared in Adrichom's Theatrum Terrae Sanctae (Köln, 1584), and was reprinted in each subsequent edition of the Theatrum. By 1682, the Theatrum had gone through its eighth edition. Prominently displayed in this map of ancient Jerusalem is the Holy Temple. One notes with interest that the text is Latin throughout with the singular exception of the Hebrew Tetragrammaton in the Holy of Holies ("Sanctum Sanctorum")
