Scholar-rabbi Isidor Kalisch was born in Krotoschin, Germany in 1816 and died in Newark in 1886. His politically liberal views forced him to leave Germany for the United States in 1849. Besides Sepher Yezirah, he translated into English Sepher ha-Tapuach (attributed to Aristotle) and the Book of Antiochus. See JE, Vol. VII, pp. 419-420
