Throughout his life, Theodor Herzl shared a close and loving relationship with his parents - quite the opposite from that experienced with his own wife and children. His father, Jacob Herzl (1835-1902), was a successful businessman, who, devoted to his son, enabled him to develop his many talents and did all he could to advance his son’s plans. He helped Theodor in all his Zionist activities with advice and financial support. Theodor, in fact regarded his father as his strongest source of moral support. Jacob Herzl was buried in Vienna, and in 1949, shortly after the State of Israel was established, his remains were reinterred, along with his son, on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. See EJ,Vol. VIII, col. 420.
