Zionisten-Congress in Basel (29, 30 und 31 August 1897) Officielles Protocoll

The official transcript of the proceedings of the First Zionist Congress. Contains an 8pp. Appendix with names of persons worldwide who sent telegrams to the Congress. One notes with interest that the list of Jews of Czortkow (Tchortkov) on p.199 by far outstrips any other locale. In his diary, Herzl describes his audience with the Rebbe of Tchortkov, which failed to materialize any tangible support. The name of Rabbi David Moses Friedmann, Rebbe of Czortkow, is missing from the list of supporters, but it is reasonable to assume that some of the chassidim do appear in the seemingly interminably long roster.
