Jerusalem, ca. 1920
Est: $10,000 - $12,000
Along with Boris Schatz, Ze’ev Raban was the Bezalel School’s most noted designer. His work “evokes romanticism, sense of Biblical history and surge of Jewish national consciousness.” Yeshiva Univeristy Museum Catalogue, Raban Remembered (1982) p. 14.
This precise frame features on the front-page of Aus Alter und Neuer Zeit, 20th February, 1930. For a very similar brass frame currently on display at the Israel Museum, see the accompanying catalogue, Boris Schatz: The Father of Israeli Art (2006) p. 136. See also Israel Museum Catalogue, Bezalel, color plate no. 9, for a ceramic tile with a comparable scene.
