An historic photograph. Established in 1919 by Rabbi Yosef-Shlomo Kahaneman, Ponevezh Yeshiva (along with Telz) became famed as a Torah study center and the stronghold of Orthodox Jewry in Lithuania. Identifiable are Rabbis Kahaneman, Abba Grossbard (later Mashgiach in the B’ne Braq transplant of the Yeshiva), Asher Kalman Baron, et al. Most of the student body perished in the Holocaust
