An Early, and Historic, American Recording of Yossele The son of the immortal cantor, Dr. Samuel Rosenblatt relates that his mother was so stunned by the news of the sinking of the Titanic on April 14, 1912 - in which 1503 of the 2200 pasengers aboard lost their lives - that she attempted to persuade her husband to cancel his forthcoming trip to America. Nonetheless, lured by the offer of the First Hungarian Congregation Ohab Zedek of New York to serve as their cantor, the singer arrived in New York on May 26th, 1912, and there he remained. See S. Rosenblatt, Yossele Rosenblatt (1954), pp. 90-93, also p. 369 (discography)
