R. Aaron of Karlin (1736-72) one of the foremost disciples of the Maggid of Mezhritch, pioneered the dissemination of Chassidism throughout Lithuania. See W.Z. Rabinowitsch, Lithuanian Hasidism (1970), pp. 8-22. R. Aaron’s composition “Y-ah Echsoph” (“Lord, I yearn for the Sabbath delight”) is to this very day a much beloved Friday evening zemer sung to numerous melodies. Although the pagination would seem to indicate that this work was originally intended to be published as part of another book, it was in fact issued independently as indicated by the two title pages. It should be noted that the second title page is scarce and was not in the copy described by Friedberg, who notes only seven leaves
