Salonikan rabbi Samuel Aripul (1540?-after 1586) composed his book Mizmor le-Thodah upon recovering from an illness that afflicted him during the years 1569-1571. Though Aripul was considered one of the outstanding preachers of the sixteenth century, scant facts survive concerning his biography. See EJ, Vol. III, col.437
