N.S. Libowitz (1862-1939), was a “gentleman-scholar” whose youthful success in the diamond business afforded him the opportunity to devote himself to writing, editing and other intellectual pursuits. Born in Poland in 1862, Libowitz emigrated to the United States in 1881. After a short spell in Palestine in 1927, he returned to America, where he died in 1939. In this attempt to propagate Jewish learning and scholarship in America, Libowitz enlisted the help of scholars from abroad such as Meir Ish Shalom, Jacob Reifman, Abraham Epstein, S. Z.C. Halberstam as well as local American writers. However, this quarterly was short-lived, after just two issues, it ceased publication.
