The first Chassidic Hagadah. The practice of printing on blue tinted paper was begun by the outstanding Christian publisher of Jewish texts, Daniel Bomberg. In the shtetls of Eastern Europe, on the other hand, blue paper was an exigency resorted to by poverty-stricken printers of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
