One of Jacob Emden’s most interesting scholarly works displaying his acuity, mathematical ability and erudition in Kabbalistic matters - especially in the area of Gematria. For example: on f. 4a, he notes that the word “Androgynous” is the numerical equivalent (390) of “Zachar U’Nekeivah” - male and female; on f. 6b, he states that the word “Havdalah” (literally separation) is the numeric equivalent of “Levi” (46). Therefore, God separated the tribe of Levi to the forefront of the service of the Lord.
