Joseph Gikatilla, a Spanish-born Kabbalist of the 14th century, sought in this original work to provide a detailed yet lucid and systematic exposition of Kabbalah. He was the originator of the doctrine equating the infinate Ein Sof with the first of the Ten Sephiroth. Both the introduction of the publisher and the approbation in the name of R. Abraham Broda cite Isaac Luria’s statement that students of Kabbalah should study this work. The editor states that the notes of his father, who was a great mekubal and well known to R. Abraham Broda, were incorporated in the text. However, R. Abraham Broda stated that they should have been published as footnotes. The editor apologizes stating that the printer did not want to change the format therefore he included only what was absolutely necessary
