Hebrew dictionary that goes into some depth concerning the derivation of terms. The author was a native of Carpentras, Provence. In his Introduction, R. Judah Aryeh proposes that the name Chavah (Eve) means a conversationalist or talkative creature. He quotes a theory that conversationalism was implanted in woman’s nature so that she would be distracted from the painful labor of childbirth. Thus does he explain the verse in Genesis 3:20: “And the man called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all living.”
