The notorious blood libel that took place in Dubrovnik in 1622 involved the accusation and sentencing of Isaac Jesurun for the murder of a little girl. The author, Aaron Ha’Kohen was the Rabbi of this port-town in the former Yugoslavia, and was arrested along with other members of the community. The affair ended after 32 months and all were released. At the end of his account of the ordeal, Ha’kohen also includes a prayer of thanksgiving to be recited annually in commemoration of the event. For a brief account of the incident and its aftermath, see EJ, VI col. 258
