Edge inscribed in Hebrew: “This is the gift of the modest and respected Madam Pearl Kofler, the female Officer of the Synagogue and Modest Women, in the year 1829.” The Modest Women were probably a charitable group, and this bowl may have been used either for collecting contributions or for service at their annual banquet.
