He was disappointed and returned to Russia, only to resettle in Jerusalem in 1919. Best known for his portraits, he makes brilliant use of color and form and often juggles several styles. His subject, David Ben Gurion served as the first Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Israel. He was an outstanding leader of the pioneering Labor movement in Israel and headed the struggle for Jewish independence in Palestine. The second subject, Chaim Weizman (1874-1952), Russian born, served as the first President of the State of Israel.
