Dutch physician and writer, Bonus was from the Bueno de Mesquita family of Marrano origin. He helped to edit the Shulchan Aruch of Joseph Caro, and translated into Spanish for publication a good part of the liturgy and the Book of Psalms. Bueno's portrait was painted by Rembrandt as "The Jewish Doctor." See EJ Vol. IV, Col. 1460
