David Nieto (1654-1728) was the Haham of the Spanish-Portugese Synagogue in London. The Mateh Dan is a defense of Rabbinic Judaism against free-thinking former Marranos. He considered it as a second Kuzari in the tradition of Rabbi Yehuda Halevi
