As the largest industrial city in Poland, Lodz had over fifty Dayanim (judges). These letters reflect the legaal, social and economic range of matters set before them: Requests for employment. * Marital and divorce cases. * A request for a Din Torah litigation concerning the dismissal of daughter-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Frank of Kutna and a letter signed by the widow of Rabbi Abraham Shlomo Morgenstern. Correspondents include the following Chassidic Rabbis: R. Yosef Baruch Gottschall (grandson of the rebbe of Radeshitz). * R. Shmuel Pinchas Shapiro of Blendshov (grandson of Koznitz). * R. Alter Yitzchak Meir Horowitz of Pokshevnitza. * R. Yosef Meir Meisels (grandson of Apter Rav). * R. Chaim Pinchos Luria, author of Petach Hadaat and Meishiv Halach requests a holiday stipend so that "his wife and children should not have to fast."
