Abraham Buchner (1789-1869), assimilationist and linguist, advocated in this commentary to Maimonide's "Moreh Nevuchim," loyalty to the State, religious tolerance and "productivization" of the Jews. Significantly, his writings took on a hostile tone after 1848 when he began to translate portions of Talmudic and Rabbinic literature for the anti-Semitic priest Chiarini.
