First volume: Contains prayers and names of the prominent members of the community. Includes a special prayer for the Jewish soldiers who perished during World War I (1916-1918). The various names listed contain an interesting anomaly. The first prayer and name listed is the Chassidic Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, the son of R. Yitzchak (of Bohush, the son-in-law of R. Nachum of Stefenest) who indeed served in Galati, whilst a later page contains a prayer for the soul of Theodor Herzl “May he rest in Paradise”. Galatz (Galati, in Rumanian) was a prominent port on the Danube river of Moldavia, Eastern Rumania. Jewish settlement commenced in the 16th century
