Probably born in Spain, Almoli spent his early years in Salonika, settling later in Constantinople where he served as Dayan. Well versed in the natural sciences he was appointed physician to the Sultan. Contemporary attitudes towards dreams in a religious context were mixed. In Mephasher Chelmin, which in subsequent editions was titled Pithron Chalomoth, the Author posits the importance of dreams and their possible philosophical interpretations. See Y. Yudlov Alei Sepher, Vol. 6-7 (1979) p.111; Ch. Yellon, Aresheth Vol. II (1960) pp.104-8
