The author studied in Safed and later settled in Jerusalem. He, along with other Jerusalem rabbinic leaders instituted the ordinance prohibiting the scholars of the city from employing the appellation “Rabbi” in order that one would not attempt to claim authority over the other. Galante was influenced by the Sabbatean movement for a time. In early 1666, he was in Aleppo where he was among the leading Sabbatean “prophets”. For a brief biography see A. Yaari, Sheluchei Eretz Yisrael (1977) pp. 290-1; and G. Scholem, Sabbatai Sevi (1973) pp. 246-8
