THE FIRST HEBREW BIBLE PRINTED IN AMERICA.
“In the year 1812, Mr. Horwitz had proposed the publication of an edition of the Hebrew Bible, being the first proposal of the kind ever offered in the United States.” This copy with the inserted notice in front of Volume One transferring J. Horowitz’ copyright and list of subscribers to Thomas Dobson.
A most extraordinary association copy, bound for Aaron Ezra Arakie Hakohen. A native of Cochin, Arakie-Hakohen, founded the first Hebrew printing press in India in Calcutta in 1840.
An important “first” in Americana, owned by the pioneer of Hebrew printing on the other side of the globe
