In the 18th century, lavishly bound Hebrew prayer-books became preferred wedding gifts, often decorated with the crests, or symbols, of the two marital families. It has been suggested that the crests on the covers may depict those of the Modigliani and Ambron families. Provenance: Hapsburg Feldman, Geneva, Judaica, 19th June 1989, lot 101. Exhibited: The Judaica Museum, Riverdale, New York; December 1989-June 1990
