Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1825, Abraham Pereira Mendes occupied rabbinic and educational posts in England and the Americas. Following the death of Haham Artom in 1879, Mendes served as preacher and Dayan of the Sephardi Community of London. He also established Northwick College, a school for Jewish youth. See A.
