“[T]he Vestry of the Great Synagogue, Duke’s Place, conceive it their indispensable duty to publish and distribute among the Members, the Laws as establshed for their guidence; for though all those laid down for religious observances are clearly deducted from sacred sources, yet the government of assemblies for the worship of God, requires certain rules and orders to be framed and followed, in order that the eccentricity of individuals may not disturb the general harmony, besides the regulations require for the procurance of funds to defray the current expenditure of the establishment, and the charitable dispensations to the poor always attached thereto.” Under the guidence of Rabbi Solomon Hirschel, the growth and development of the Great Synagogue, was the most marked of all the London Congregations. On it’s development see C. Duschinsky, The Rabbinate of the Great Synagogue London (1921)
