Leiden: Johannes Le Maire 1621

Est: $600 - $800
PRICE REALIZED $700
The second Hebrew book printed by Le Maire, the son of a Protestant bookbinder from Valenciennes. The editor, Willam Coddaeus, was professor of Hebrew at Leiden University from 1601 until 1619 when he was dismissed because of his liberal theological views. Fuks suggests that the publication of this book may have been undertaken to provide him with an income as Coddaeus. See L. Fuks, Hebrew Typography in the Northern Netherlands (1984) Part I, pp. 32-3.
