Born in Jerusalem, Abraham ben Samuel Gedaliah traveled to Italy and while in Livorno, worked as a proofreader in the printing works of Jedidiah Gabbai. He lists over 90 works that he utilized in preparing this commentary to the Yalkut, including hitherto unknown manscripts, amoung them, Rabbeinu Hillel’s commentary on the Sifra and Sifri. While in Italy, R. Abraham befriended Moses Zacuto, who wrote an introduction and laudatory poem in Volume II of this work.
