Son of Moses ben Joesph di Trani (MaBI”T), Joseph lived in Safed for a large part of his life and later held the Rabbinic post of Constantinople. He studied together with R. Tobias ben Abraham Halevi (see Lot 143) under the tutelage of R. Solomon Sagis, disciple of the great Isaac Luria (the AR”I). Although the MaHaRI”T is primarily known as a halachist through his responsa and novellae, this work of sermons shows his multi-faceted scholarship.
