The Midrash Shocher Tov was most likely composed towards the end of the tenth century and the place of origin was probably Southern Italy. The Midrash Mishlei is more in the form of an Agadic commentary on the book and contains sayings, parables, proverbs and short homiletic interpretations on each chapter. The Midrash Shmuel contains thirty-two chapters, twenty-four of which deal with Samuel I, and eight that deal with Samuel II.
