The author was one of the great scholars of Salonika. Before he died, he requested this work be published. In the introduction, the author’s son explains that although the manuscript contained three sermons for each Torah portion, a lack of funds required him to print only one. Friedberg in Beth Eked Separim erroneously ascribes1625 as the first edition of this work. His confusion stems from the recording of the author’s demise in1625 noted on the title-page of the true first edition of 1636.
