The work in fact contains two works on the game of chess; an allegorical poem attributed to ibn Ezra and an anonymous prose work which is titled Ma’adanei Melech (“The Kings Delight”). The metrical and verbal skill of the poem suggest that ibn Ezra was the author, but the main difficulty in ascribing it to him, is the reference to the double-pawn move. For a detailed examination of both ibn Ezra’s poem and the anonymous prose work Ma’adanei Melech see V. Keats, Chess Amoung the Jews (London) unpublished.
