A disciple of R. Dov Ber, Maggid of Mezrich, Issachar Dov-Ber was also an outstanding Halachic scholar, as evidenced by his work, Bath Eyni. He was a scion of a prominent family - Mi’geza Tzvi, and a descendent of Rashi. In later years he settled in Safed where he died, and was laid to rest next to R. Moses Alsheich. Issachar Dov-Baer’s apptitude for science is revealed in an interesting appeal made by Moses Eliezer Belinson in his introduction to the second edition of Joseph Delmedigo’s Sepher Elim. Belinson writes of an entire pamphlet of comments and corrections on Sepher Elim by Issachar Dov-Baer and requests anyone who knows of its whereabouts to send it to him for publication.
