Born in Ukraine, 1894, Pinchas Litvinovsky was persuaded by Boris Schatz to came to Jerusalem and join the Bezalel School. He was disappointed and returned to Russia, only to resettle in Jerusalem in 1919. Best known for his portraits, he makes brilliant use of color and form and often juggles several styles. His subject, Chana Rovina, was one of the founder-members of the Habimah Theater Company. Arriving with the Company in Palestine in 1928, she was soon acknowledged as the country’s leading actress.
