For a short time himself a follower of Shabbthai Tzvi, Chacham Sasportas’ collection of responsa to inquiries regarding his attitude toward the Sabbatian movement appeared only after his death. Originally appended to Sasportas’ volume of responsa Ohel Ya’akov, Kitzur Tzitzath Novel Tzvi was expunged by the Elders of Amsterdam’s Portuguese Community, frightened by the ferocity with which Sasportas attacked the followers of the False Messiah. According to Carmily-Weinberger “It is to be assumed that Kitzur Tzitzath Novel Tzvi was originally printed together with Sefer Ohel Ya’akov and was only deleted from subsequent editions, because the index of Sefer Ohel Ya’akov lists the pages and contents of Kitzur Tzitzath Novel Tzvi.” See Carmilly-Weinberger, pp.61-2
