The MaHaRa”M Mintz was one of the greatest German Halachic scholars of the 15th century. As Rabbi of Bamberg, Nürnberg and Posen he featured prominently within many communal issues in Germany and beyond. His responsa are important for the delineation of Aschkenazi custom, the Takanoth of Rabbeinu Gershom and Takanoth ShU”M (Speyer, Worms and Mainz). Of significance is the author’s veherment opposition to the Takanoth that were enacted by Seligman Bing Oppenheim without the approval of the communal leaders and Rabbis
