First title page with an interesting bibliographical note in a 16th century hand concerning Jochanan Treves. The author of the commentary Kimcha de’Aivshuna on the Festival prayers, Treves worked as editor and proof-reader at the House of Daniel Bomberg. According to the note, Treves himself composed the poetic description on the title of Even Bochen, which is copied from the Bomberg edition. The writer extols Treves’s virtues, and states he knew him from his stay in Padua. He then criticizes those Jewish students at the University of Padua who are squandering their time on a “darkened path,” flattering Gentiles, rather than pursuing a life of Torah study. See M. Benayahu, Cremona, pp.44-5
