Penned by a disciple in commemoration of his teacher, Hamburg succeeded his master as principal of the Yeshivah and Chief Rabbi of Fürth. He maintained a correspondence with R. Moses Sofer who described Hamburg as a “great man of high stature.” He vociferously refuted the thesis of the nascent Reform Movement and was later removed from all public positions when they obtained a majority in the Communal structure.
