Panorama of the Eastern quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. The precinct, supported by massive walls where the Mosques of Omar and El Aksa stand, is clearly seen. Hard by the Dome of the Rock and the Mosque of El Aksa stands the imposing Western Wall, an enormous structure that once formed a support for the foundation of the Temple of Solomon. To the left, the Temple Mount plunges to the Silwan Valley and the Ancient City of David. To the right, the Tombs of Absalom and the Prophet Zechariah on the slopes of the Valley of Jehosaphat can be seen. See Yesterday and Today: The Holyland Lithographs and Diaries of David Roberts R.A.
