A Jewish man, his head carved of wax, his limbs of wood, dressed in a three piece silk suit with metallic lace trim, and hat. The base, of carved wood, dates to the 19th century. H: 135mm. Nose abraded.

This figurine is accompanied by a description (dated August 15, 1957) from the Prague Jewish Museum concerning this “original figure of a Jew in his garment typical for the Prague Ghetto on the verge of the 18th century...slight damage to the tip of the nose... garment of original material.” This item was sold (Lot 195) at Christie’s Important Judaica, Amsterdam, December 15, 1988. The catalogue refers to the “distinctive yellow pointed Jewish hat.” SEE ILLUSTRATION
