Barbour was United States Ambassador to the State of Israel from May, 1961 until January, 1973. Prime Minister and Mrs. Eshkol established a warm friendship. The gift was extended on is birthday, just prior to the first am nniversary of the outbreak of the Six Day War. A year later, the Hon.Walworth Barbour was named Career Ambassador by President Nixon, a rare appointment testifying to his success and reputation in the Diplomatic Corps.
