A Marrano poet born in Lisbon, Abudiente moved to Amsterdam in 1624 and then settled in the small, wealthy Sephardic Community of Hamburg, where he married the daughter of his fellow Marrano, Reuel Jesurun. Along with many others in Hamburg, he was swept up with Messianic enthusiasm in 1665-6 and penned a theological tract that sheds light on his Sabbatian sympathies. He died in Hamburg in 1688. His grandon was the English financier Samson Gideon (-Abudiente). See MGWJ, vol. IX (1860) pp.69-71; M. Studemund-Halévy (Ed.) Die Sefarden in Hamburg (1994) pp.252-3; JHSET, vol. XVII (1953) pp.79-90
