Necklaces such as this, known as a Labbeh, were made in Yemen by the silversmiths of San’a. They were usually given to a bride by her father or groom. The necklace would be hung from a headpiece and worn during the Marriage Ceremony and at festive occasions throuhout a woman’s life. See Israel Museum Catalogue, The Jews of Yemen, pp.86-7
