Kaplan was a well-known Warsaw pedagogue of both Yiddish and Modern Hebrew. In 1962, his war-time diaries were discovered, recounting events from the invasion of Poland in 1939 until his own deportation to Treblinka, where he was killed, in 1942. The diaries were edited and translated into English by A.I. Katsh in 1965
