Di Gilder was an emissary from Safed, sent to raise funds from his co-religionists in Europe. This pamphlet presents letters of attestation from leading Rabbinic figures - (including Jonathan Eybescheutz and R. Jacob Joshua, the Pnei Yehoshua) - on behalf of di Gilder’s good character and applauding his charitable endeavors. Yaari, in his Sheluchei Eretz Yisrael (pp.446-9) contends that di Gilder was a disreputable individual who in fact stole the funds he purported to collect on behalf of others
