Following the Conference of Reform Rabbis in Braunschweig in 1845, announcement was made of changes to Jewish prayer and practice. This forceful broadside was issued protesting what was considered to be grave threats to Judaism’s future. In vigorous terms, the declaration implies a ban on any idea at variance to the Code of Jewish Law. The broadside concludes with the names of 116 Central European Orthodox Rabbis rallying to this position. Includes such illustrious figures as Rabbis Moses Schick (Maharam Schick), Shimon Sofer (son of the Chatham Sofer), Samson Raphael Hirsch, Samuel Benjamin Schreiber (Kethav Sofer), Jacob Ettlinger (Orach Laner), etc. Broadside presumably issued in German in order to receive the widest possible reading audience
