Fine Judaica: Books, Manuscripts and Works of Art The Property of Various Owners
Lot 361
PALESTINE SILVER LAVER. Of bulbous form, richly etched, with grape-vine motifs and boldly-wrought Hebrew inscriptions. Applied with two handles.
H: 145mm
Jerusalem, circa 1900
Est: $3,500 - $5,000
Acquired by the consignor from Joseph Stieglitz of Tel Aviv, who observed the workmanship of this piece to be strikingly similar to the very earliest items of Judaic silver produced by the Bezalel School of Art. It could be surmised therefore, that this unknown silversmith later joined Bezalel and helped develop it’s distinct style.
