This children’s primer suffused with a love of Jewish tradition and the Holy Land, contains the earliest Hebrew children’s songs for game and play. A gentleman-scholar from a family of distinguished lineage, piety and wealth, Jawitz left Poland in 1887 and settled in Zichron Ya’akov. An early exponent of religious Zionism, he was active, together with Pines, in developing Hebrew as a modern language through the Va’ad Halashon. His major work was the 14 volume Jewish historiography, Toldot Yisrael
